NEW YEAR, NEW YOU / CREATIVITY!
This is Samm. She’s an incredible artists with a huge heart for animals. Her beautiful work is in homes and galleries all over Florida. http://www.sammwehmanart.com A portion of all her proceeds go to support animal rescue and farm sanctuaries like us! She even tries to feature pit bulls and other “bully” breeds in her art because they’ve received an unfair bad rap. She also teaches by hosting “paint your pit” and other group experiences where people learn to explore their own creativity by painting their pets. We are very excited to announce that Samm will be hosting a “paint a pig” class at Peacefield on March 1st at 12pm!!! (You’ll actually be able to paint your own pet or any of our crew 🐷 🦃 🐔 🐄). You’ll learn from a professional artist and supplies and vegan snacks will be provided. See the FB event link for more info and to rsvp. We wanted to announce this awesome event but also feel that it fits perfectly with our January NEW YEAR, NEW YOU challenge. The world needs more creative expression and art. And Samm found a way to weave her talents together with her passion to make the world a better place. A win-win! As idealistic as it sounds, finding our own versions of this can be scary at first. It requires us to be vulnerable in a jaded world and probably fail a few times. But the good news is that the stars seem to align when our motives are pure. The additional wind at your back will be that it won’t (shouldn’t) feel like work - at least not all the time. We’ve experience a lit bit of all of this in our first year (8months) at Peacefield. As city kids we needed to learn how to care for animals and 30 acres, as introverts we needed to learn how to open up and host events, as Minnesotans who never want to bother anybody (“ope, sorry” is the state motto) we had to learn how to run a non profit and solicit support, and as two people with a pretty cushy and safe life we had to deal with failure. And the list goes on. We had to get creative, get out of our comfort zone, work long days, and fail hard. BUT the good news is we learned, stretched ourselves, and the reward of being able to see the fruits of our labor in happy animals and opened hearts in visitors is SO worth it. We also were lifted up by the response from the community and the generosity of our supporters and volunteers. We are far from perfect and definitely don’t want these posts to feel like “look at us and how great we are,” rather we just want to encourage you to open up to a new you this year. And maybe that is getting creative in a way that brings your passion and talents together.
